Arthur Klein Obituary
Arthur S. Klein of Orange, Conn., passed away on the evening of October 31 after a long illness. He was a few weeks shy of his 85th birthday. Art was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, in 1940 to Diana (Freiberg) and Milton Klein. His father died in a car accident when Art was only 13. He put himself through college while working to support his family. He was studying at Brooklyn Polytech when he met his future wife, Nadine (Cantor). He graduated from the University of New Haven with a B.S. in Materials Engineering in 1975. He chose metallurgical engineering, he often joked, "because it had the least math," but he proved to be a brilliant engineer, with ten patents and a distinguished career at places like Olin, AMF, GE, and most recently Deringer-Ney. He invented alloys used in the most demanding industrial and medical applications, including – to his surprise – the pacemaker doctors implanted in him in 2021. Along with his wife Nadine, who passed away before him, Art moved to southern Connecticut to start a family in the mid-1960s, where they lived and raised three sons. He was a meticulous notekeeper and planner. He wrote the date on every battery and lightbulb he bought so he could keep track of its longevity. He collected "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" monkey figurines, and matchbooks from the cities he visited. He was a restless inventor, perennially fixing what he considered to be the inadequate designs of household objects. From the mailbox to the hard-to-reach pull chain on a closet light, his house is full of clever switches, springs and other carefully added improvements. He kept busy in retirement, sending engineering suggestions and ideas to his sons as they built successful local businesses – FrameItEasy in Derby and Force3 Pro Gear in Stratford. He never lost his curiosity, his loud laugh, or his deep Brooklyn accent. In addition to his three sons Michael, Scott, and Jason, he leaves behind his brother Jeffrey and sister-in-law Donna; daughter-in-law Sarah Way; grandchildren Tallulah and Nathaniel; friend Pattie Prota; and many nephews and nieces. Funeral Service will be held at the Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, 543 George St. New Haven on Monday, November 3rd at 11 a.m., with interment to follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Derby Milford Road, Orange.
