Barbara Matassa Obituary

Barbara Jean Matassa of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home on August 29 th, 2025. Born on January 31st in Hartford, Connecticut, Barbara was the youngest child of the late Louise and Archie Ferguson. Barbara grew up in East Hartford, where she developed an early love for drawing, dancing, and gymnastics. Barbara earned a degree in Computer Science and devoted over 30 years to a career in Information Technology at a local credit union, retiring early in 2023 after years of service to her colleagues and community. Barbara loved spending time with her cat, Buddy, and watching cooking shows, but she was happiest basking in the sunshine. She could often be found outside tending to her garden, walking through her neighborhood, or relaxing by the pool. Barbara expressed her love through food, always delighting in experimenting with new recipes and making sure no one ever left her home hungry. Barbara will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She leaves her daughter Lisa (Matassa) Cunningham and her husband Sean Cunningham; her sister Pattie Muise and her children Renee Cottrill and Ryan Cottrill; as well as her sister Mary Corcoran and her children Christine Romano and Rob Corcoran. She will be remembered for her independence, resilience, and strength-qualities that inspired everyone who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Barbara's life on Saturday, October 25th, at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
