Barbara Williams, age 89, of North Haven, CT went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2025. The daughter of the late Mildred Jones (Taylor) and Griffin Nelson Jones. She was born on August 16, 1935 in Danville, VA. Barbara was a faithful member of Cornerstone Church in Milford, CT where she also volunteered her office skills.
When she was one year old her mother moved her and her brother to New Haven, CT. She attended New Haven public schools and graduated from Hillhouse High School. She attended Sacred Heart University where she earned her BA in Business English.
During her life Barbara had a variety of jobs, working for Mayor Lee of New Haven, a business English teacher at Katherine Gibbs College in Norwalk, CT, Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, CT and Stratford Board of Education. She finally retired in 2015 from the State of CT, Department of Social Services as an eligibility worker.
Barbara loved to go on vacations, take cruises, travel and just sitting on the beach under the sun. She had a love for tennis and the singer Johnny Mathis.
Barbara is survived by two daughters, Wendy Williams Harris (Gerald), of Hamden, CT and Krista Diane Williams of East Hartford, CT. Three granddaughters, Cokeisha Williams Powell of Virginia Beach, VA, Nicole Johnson (Edwin) of East Haven, CT and Michelle White of Hamden, CT. Ten great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sydney, Camryn, Jacob, Tyler, Jamari, Briana, David, Na'taja and Pharaoh and one great-great granddaughter Astraea Marie and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Mildred Taylor Jones Ruth, her father Griffin Nelson Jones Sr., her two brothers, Griffin Nelson Jones Jr. and James (Jimmy) Gordon Ruth Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday April 24, 2025 at 4pm at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home 1300 Dixwell Avenue Hamden, CT 06514. Visitation from 3-4pm. Condolences may be expressed at Hamdenmemorialfuneralhome.com.
