Benjamin Mathews Obituary
Benjamin Kendrick Mathews, 28, of Morrisville, NC, formerly of Simsbury, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Ben was born in Hartford, the son of Darrell Mathews and Carline St. Vil. He graduated from Simsbury High School in 2014, where he was Captain of the Robotics Team. His passion for biology and his goal to help find a cure for cancer led him to earn his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from North Carolina State University in 2018. After college, he stayed in North Carolina and was employed as a research and laboratory technician at Foundation Medicine, Grail, and Tempus AI in Research Triangle Park.
Ben was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He will be fondly remembered as a thoughtful and giving man whose family meant the world to him. Ben was wise beyond his years, had an extraordinary mind, and his logical and analytical side saw that the obvious answer to a problem was not always the easiest one. He was quiet and shy, but once you pulled him out of his shell, his true heart shone through, and you saw the wonderful young man that he was. Ben had a great sense of humor and a smile that would light up a room and melt your heart at the same time. His goal was always to try to make the world a better place, and he did everything he could to achieve that within his sphere of influence.
Ben spent his down time de-stressing with his favorite video games, and recently found a love for working out and rock climbing. He was resourceful and always found a way to make things happen, especially in the kitchen, recreating his grandma's famous mac & cheese and fried chicken, his all-time favorites. He also enjoyed anime and loved to travel, hoping one day to experience Japan firsthand.
Ben leaves a legacy of beautiful memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
In addition to his father and mother, Ben was loved by his stepmom, Dawn Mathews, his siblings: Justin, Lucas, Olivia, and Alexa Mathews, and his grandmothers, Lenora Perryman and Marie Favol. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he shared a very special bond.
Ben was predeceased by his grandfathers, Richard Mathews and Carlo St. Vil.
Calling hours will be on Monday, November 3, from 1-3 pm at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3 pm at the funeral home.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
