Beverly Ann Buchert, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on September 4, 2025, at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. Born on September 1, 1939, in Turners Falls, MA, Bev was known by all who loved her as a source of pure love and unwavering support. She welcomed everyone with open arms, making each person feel seen, accepted, and cherished. Her laughter, kindness, and adventurous spirit touched countless lives – from encouraging friends to follow their dreams, to filling family gatherings with joy. Bev's memory will forever be carried in the hearts of her family and the many friends whose lives she brightened. She maintains her status of "best mother ever!"
Bev was the daughter of Edward and Lillian Reum and grew up in Turners Falls, graduating from high school there and attending North Hampton Commercial College. Bev was predeceased by her brother, William, and is survived by her beloved sister Marilyn Currier of Naples, FL.
Bev moved to Beacon Hill in Boston in her early 20s and worked for the Appalachian Mountain Club. She met her husband, the love of her life, Thomas Buchert, on Beacon Hill. They were married on October 13, 1962. They moved to New Hampshire soon after and settled in Mont Vernon, where her three children were born: Wendy, Tammy, and Thomas Jr. Bev was active in the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, sang in the choir, and helped establish the town's first kindergarten. She was also working towards her bachelor's degree in music at Riviere College in Nashua. She loved her big garden, country setting, her many pets, and music.
A job change took the family to Woodbury, CT, where she started a musical nursery school, worked for General Data Comm in the international department, was very active in the Woodbury North Congregational Church, and was the first director and creator of the bell choir, which she led for over 20 years.
Life took Bev and Tom to Martha's Vineyard, Naples, FL, Wakefield, RI, Arcadia, FL, and they landed in Westerly, RI, five years ago.
Bev found her truest joy being with her family, vacationing, holidays, and simply being around the ones she loved. Bev was often found at the piano, surrounded by grandchildren, friends, and family, singing her heart out.
Bev was the proud mother of Wendy, Tammy, and Tommy and mother-in-law to Geoffrey Whan, Rosario Buchert, and Daniel Benedetto. Bev's grandchildren were the light of her life: Mia, Lucy, Jake, Jennifer, and Ella. Bev had a wonderful habit of writing a love note on her family's lunch box napkins. This tradition has been passed down not only by her family but also by some of their friends.
Bev wanted this quote to be shared upon her passing:
"Death is nothing at all – I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we are to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Laugh as we always laughed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was: there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? All is well. Nothing is past, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before, only better, infinitely happier and forever – we will all be together with Christ."
Bev's passing is a profound loss to all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of Beverly's life, the family is planning a memorial service in the coming months. To communicate with Tom Buchert Sr., he can be reached at
