Brian Grogan Obituary

Brian James Grogan, M.D., age 68, of Cromwell, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 29, 2025 at Middlesex Hospital. Brian was born in Binghamton, NY, son to the late James Francis Grogan and Dorothy Miner Grogan. He attended Fairport High School in Fairport, NY, graduated from Hamilton College as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honors society, and received his medical doctorate from S.U.N.Y. Upstate Medical Center. During his youth, Brian spent his summers at Camp Cory in Penn Yan, NY, where he worked as a counselor and sailing master. He spoke often of his formative years at camp, and returned many times to help preserve their sailing program for new generations. A longtime resident of Simsbury, CT and loving father of four, Brian was principled, resilient, generous, and quick to humor. During his 28-year career, Brian diligently served the Farmington Valley and Hartford County communities as a partner of the Jefferson X-Ray Group. He worked in the radiology departments of various hospitals, including Hartford Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and Johnson Memorial Hospital. Outside of his work, Brian pursued his passions of music, cars, trivia, and film. He sang as second tenor in the Hartford Chorale for over 20 years, drove and cared for his sports cars, relished answering trivia questions during his favorite TV program, Jeopardy, and enjoyed winding down to movies played through his home theater. Ultimately his greatest pride and joy were his children, with whom he generously shared his knowledge and endless curiosity through excursions to museums, national parks, and historical landmarks. Brian was preceded in death by his father James, and is survived by his mother Dorothy, his siblings David and Karen, his children Brian Jr., Meghan, Michael, and Daniel, and their mother, Kim. He will also be missed by friends, colleagues, and all those he left a lasting impact on with his vibrant personality. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 30th from 5pm to 8pm at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home in Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, CT on Saturday, May 31st at 10am, with burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT. I am an imaging tech who worked with Dr. Grogan for decades. His dedication to patient care... despite evolving corporate pressure on volume vs individual care was much admired and facilitated in whatever way we could as techs. I remain in awe of Dr. Brian Grogan's dedication to the patient care of an individual. We need more Doctor's of his ilk! Additionally, Dr. Grogan... always reached out personally and connected with the techs who worked for him! He is sorely missed.
