Bridget Hemond Obituary
Bridget Ann Hemond nee O'Sullivan was born in Cappanacollee, Ballydehob, West Cork, Ireland on February 2, 1931. She was predeceased by her dear mother Kate O'Sullivan, nee O'Driscoll the same year on September 22, 1931, and by her father Daniel on June 19, 1951.
Bridget left Ireland for England in her late teens and worked in Selfridges Department Store, London. She was enjoying her new life in England when she became seriously ill and was given three days to live. By the grace of God she recovered and ten years later she boarded a ship for New York. She then lived on Cape Cod, Massachusetts where, on one occasion, she enjoyed a brief conversation with JFK during his presidency. Bridget later settled in the Hartford area of Connecticut. She was married to Joseph Hemond for seventeen years until his death in1985.
Bridget is predeceased by her six brothers: Daniel, Joseph, William, Jeremiah, Patrick and Matthew, and by her three sisters: May, Sheila (Julia), and Margaret, also her nephew Joseph and niece Kathleen.
Her love for life included cooking, vegetable gardening and designing clothing.
She was very grateful for the prayers and care provided by the Daughters of the Immaculate Conception at St. Lucians in New Britain, Connecticut and for the prayers of the Legion of Mary in Plainville, Connecticut.
Special thanks to the staff at Suffield House, Connecticut, for the care they provided, in particular to Maxine, and to Bridget's dedicated private team of carers: Laurice, Keandrah, Haydee and Sue. Bridget will be sadly missed by her life-long friend Ana Covey, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially David.
Bridget will be remembered for her generous donations to St. Paul Catholic School in Kensington, Connecticut, and to Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St Paul Catholic Parish, 467 Alling St., Kensington, Connecticut on Tuesday, October 21 at 11:30. The burial will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, please pray for the repose of her soul, her ancestors, and all the souls in Purgatory.
