Charles Marcel Obituary

On July 1,2025, Charles E. Marcel, with his nephew & nephew's wife by his side, was called to eternal rest. He was born to the late Jean & Agnes Marcel on August 5,1932 in Harford, CT. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jeanne Castoldi and Suzanne Carter and his brother, Jean Marcel. He is survived by his nephews, Richard Risley & his wife, Louise Reagan, Michael Risley & his wife, Peg Risley, Raymond Castoldi & his wife, April Castoldi, his nieces, Adelle Scully and Sharon Meehan & her husband, Michael Meehan. He is also survived by 10 grand & 7 great grand-nephews & nieces. Charles grew up in Manchester, played high school football, graduating from Manchester High School in 1950. He then enlisted in the Army serving active duty in the Korean War and then the CT National Guard Company A – Headquarters Company – 1st Battalion for a total of 14 years of service. Since leaving the Guard has been a member of American Legion Post 0200. Following his father's footsteps, Charles went to work for Merrow Machine serving as a tool & die maker, retiring as a foreman of the toolroom after 43 years in April 1996. He lived in Vernon, Ct since 1975. He was a very charitable man to various causes and was a communicant of St. Bridget Church in Manchester for many years serving as an usher since the mid 1980's. His family leaned on him as their handyman & family historian. He had a great memory and could give you very detailed stories sometimes with documentation and his notes. He was a proud veteran and Frenchman. Charles loved his sportscars, taking long walks, frequenting various local restaurants and traveling to France to visit relatives. The family would like to thank his loyal friends for their companionship and support over the years, Lynn & Brian Bednarczyk, Jerry Bidwell & Richard Paquette. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to CT Children's Medical Center in Charles memory, Gifts can be directed to Connecticut Children's online at Donate to Connecticut Children's Foundation, Inc. (connecticutchildrens.org) Checks, made payable to Connecticut Children's Foundation, Inc., may be mailed to: Connecticut Children's Foundation, Inc., Attn: Memorial Gifts, PO Box 412901, Boston, MA 02241-2901. Please include the name in the memo line. Services to be posted at a later date.

Charlie was my dear friend for almost 30 years. He was intelligent and had a very sharp memory. We had many long conversations about politics, science, religion and the general state of our world. He was very proud of his military service and his family. I will truly miss him. Fondly, Lynn Bednarczyk
