Charles Powell Obituary

Charles Oliver Powell, Jr. was born at Harlem Hospital on September 23, 1963. He grew up a charming and charismatic boy. After the passing of his parents, Charles and his sister Charlene were lovingly raised by their grandparents, Claude and Esther Powell. Charles attended St. Ann's Catholic School for elementary and middle school and later graduated from Park West High School. Following his graduation, Charles began working at the Hunts Point Terminal Market, where he dedicated over 30 years of service before retiring in a managerial role. After many years living in Harlem and the Bronx, Charles relocated to Connecticut, where he embraced suburban life. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Charles cheered passionately - often for whichever team was winning - and had a particular love for football and boxing. Among his favorite hobbies were fishing and spending time at the gun range. Charles found his greatest joy in being with family. He especially cherished his life with his wife, Regina, with whom he enjoyed visiting casinos. He took pride in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend. Charles is survived by his wife, Regina Alston-Powell; daughters, Chyna and Shamicka; son, Patrick (with his wife Elena); and grandchildren, Bryce, Jayce, Naijah, and Jovah. He is also survived by his sister, Charlene; niece, Ashley; nephew, Tre; and by his cousins, Oliver, Brandon, and Terrell, with whom he shared a brotherly bond. Charles also held a special closeness with his cousin Kim; mother-in-law, Carolyn; sisters-in-law, Carrie and Aisha; nieces, Joi and Chantel; and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Powell, Sr. and Sylvia Powell; son, Charles "Stefy"; aunts, Karen, Barbara Ann, Shirley Jean, and Earline; uncle, Oliver; and brother-in-law, Michael.
