Our beloved Clara Sabala, of Windsor Locks, CT, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born October 1,1932, in Newington, CT, the daughter of the late John and Mary Kornak.
Clara was the heart and soul of her adoring family, a role she cherished above all else that brought her endless joy, and she will be missed immensely.
As a doting and dedicated stay-at-home mother, Clara was her children's most enthusiastic fan in the stands, on the sidelines or in the auditorium of every one of their events – from motorcross racing to ballet and a multitude of sporting events, including crack-of-dawn hockey games. When it came time for Clara to cheer on her five grandchildren, she didn't miss a beat. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, making sure they always knew how much they meant to her. She was always someone her kids or grandkids could go to for advice, love and comfort, and especially a good laugh when needed. Clara had a wonderful sense of humor.
As someone who dearly valued time with others, Clara found joy in organizing gatherings, finding any reason to get together with her family, friends and her coworkers from Aetna. Every occasion, no matter how big or small, was worthy of celebrating and enjoying one another's company, typically accompanied by a good measure of food, song, dance and laughter.
Clara made lifelong friends with ease due to her outgoing and caring nature. She was compassionate and sympathetic, always concerned for those less fortunate. She was forever quick with a clever comeback and
had an endearing propensity for silliness. Her lively personality and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Clara loved summer trips to the Maine seashore, Cape Cod, Rhode Island beaches, UConn basketball, Red Sox, visits to her daughter's farm, outdoor concerts on the green, theater and shows.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Sabala, her son Brian Sabala, daughter Patti Sederquist and husband Jonathan Sederquist, daughter-in-law Laurie Sabala, and former daughter-in-law Laurel Sabala. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Moore and her husband Jonathan, Joseph Sabala and his spouse Elliot, Logan Sabala, Jasmin Sabala, Jameson Sederquist, great granddaughter Isabella Moore, her dear cousin Katherine Churchill, nieces and nephews and their families, and close friend Dorothy Greene. Clara was preceded in death by her son, David, her siblings John, Joseph, Edward, Helen, Frances, and Genevieve.
Visitation for family and friends who would like to offer condolences will take place Saturday November 8th, from 9:30 - 10:30am at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 52 South Elm St. in Windsor Locks, and will be immediately followed by a Mass at the church and burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a
charity of your choice, as charitable causes were near and dear to Clara's heart. For online condolences, please visit www.windsorlocksfuneralhome.com.
