Claudia Carangelo Obituary
Claudia (Bailey) Carangelo, 78 of East Haven passed away September 21, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born May 10, 1947 in New Haven to Claude Sr. and Frances (Wetherbee) Bailey. Claudia is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Andrew "Butch" Carangelo, two granddaughters, Lea Carangelo and Alysa Carangelo and a sister, Susan Bailey of Clinton. Claudia is also survived by close family friend, Maureen Leone (Greg) of North Branford along with numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a very special place in her heart.
Claudia is preceded in death by her parents, and two sons, David Carangelo (1997) and James "Jimmy" Carangelo (2023) and her two brothers, Claude Jr. and Frank Bailey.
Claudia worked many years as a bookkeeper and retired from her most recent position at Town Fair Tire in 2018, where she worked as a manager in the accounts and receivable department.
Claudia deeply cherished time spent with her family and close friends. She took great joy in the simple things in life such as playing piano and celebrating special moments and holidays with family. She was overjoyed in being surprised with a 50th wedding anniversary party for both her and Butch and she thoroughly enjoyed throwing their annual Chatfield Hollow summer picnics. Claudia was also thrilled to go on family trips to Georgia to spend special time with her Aunts, her Uncle and her many cousins.
Claudia's most special moments included time with Butch, whom she adored. Their special bond was built through the good times and the bad. Spending 59 years together, arm in arm, with her favorite person, was one of her greatest blessings. They were known to spend hours each day sharing their deepest thoughts and feelings while sitting across from each other at their kitchen table. These special moments demonstrated what true friendship and connection in a marriage should look like.
In her retirement, Claudia loved spending time with Butch outside in their sunny yard while visiting with their chickens. Her devoted companion,"Benji" was always by her side and brought her much happiness in her final years.
Claudia relied heavily on her faith during very challenging times and was famous for reminding others that, "God will provide for your needs, while you will provide for your wants." She was grateful for every gift that God gave to her.
Those closest to her will remember her resilience, her kindness, and her ability for unconditional love. They will remember how she sought to leave others feeling happier than when she found them, as she would never leave an interaction without telling you that she loved you.
Claudia will be lovingly remembered by all and will be deeply missed. We wish her peace as she reunites with her two sons, Jimmy and Dave, in heaven.
Family will receive friends from 8 AM until 9:30 AM on Tuesday September 30, 2025 in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession will then leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
