Doris Gunthrop Obituary
Mrs. Doris June "Dot" (Vaughn) Gunthrop, 90, of Wall Street, peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Mr. Willie Gunthrop, her husband of 53 years and the love of her life.
Born on July 6, 1935, in Pulaski, Virginia, Doris was the daughter of the late Julian Vaughan and Sherwood King. Affectionately known as "Dot" by all who knew her, she was a proud graduate of Pulaski High School, Class of 1953.
After completing her education, Dot began her career at Springs Cotton Mill in Lancaster, South Carolina. In 1972, she and her husband, Willie, relocated to Waterbury, Connecticut, where she made her home for the remainder of her life. She was later employed at Timex until its closing and then retired to become a full-time homemaker-a role she embraced wholeheartedly.
Dot found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading the newspaper, watching her favorite soap opera Days of Our Lives, and cheering on basketball games with her husband. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Together with Willie, she lovingly raised five children and played an active role in helping to nurture and guide the younger generations of her family.
Dot took tremendous pride in caring for her home, tending to her houseplants, and creating a warm and welcoming space for everyone who entered. She was known for her honesty, her vibrant personality, and her heart of gold-always ready to lend a hand or speak her mind. Her radiant smile could brighten any room, and her love for her family was endless. Above all, Dot was a devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her loving husband, Willie, she leaves behind her daughters Donna and Lynn of South Carolina, Tiffany and Alesia "Lisa" of Waterbury, and her son Gregory "Bam" Gunthrop of Waterbury. She also leaves her beloved grandson Michael Gunthrop of Waterbury, as well as great-grandchildren Jameryous, Jalil, Ja'zari, Kaliyah, Ka'lanii, and Ka'laija, all of Waterbury; Jordan, Jalen, and Jamir, all of Naugatuck; along with many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Dot was predeceased by her sons Larry and Darrel Pate and her daughter Patricia "Marie" Gunthrop.
Her warmth, wisdom, and unforgettable smile will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
