Elisabetta Liburdi Obituary

Elisabetta (Palumbo) Liburdi, 85, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Riccardo Liburdi, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at home, She was born in San Felice, Italy, on April 1, 1939, daughter of the late Michele and Adele (Santagata) Palumbo. She had fond memories of her childhood including working on the family farm with her parents and sisters and being part of a small, close community, also fond memories of American soldiers bringing the Italian kids candy bars, and not so fond memories of men having to hide from enemy soldiers during WW2. Elisabetta and family moved to the US in 1957, and here she met Riccardo, her wonderful partner of almost 64 years, marrying on May 27, 1961. Elisabetta was a person of endless energy and devotion to family, friends and neighbors. She was a fierce supporter of all her grandchildren, never missing hockey games, basketball, swim meets, or concerts. In addition, she was a talented seamstress and dressmaker, then an innovative lock assembler who developed a tool that more than doubled her company's rate of production, and spent the final several years of her working life as a housekeeper working side by side with her older sister at Central Connecticut State university. In retirement as before, she always made herself available to family and friends to provide rides, help with cooking, and any other work that needed to be done. She was resident of South Windsor since 2003, she also lived in New Britain and Berlin. She was a communicant of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. Bridget Church. A kind, caring, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend she will be dearly missed. Along with her husband of over 63 years, Riccardo, she leaves her son, Richard Liburdi and his wife Kathryn of West Hartford, her daughter, Sandra Jones and her husband Bud of South Windsor, her sister, Maria Theriault of Newington, and her grandchildren, Christopher Jones and his wife Selina, Nicholas Jones, Christiana Jones, Dario Liburdi, and Ariel Liburdi, and Natasha Page. She was predeceased by her sisters, Maria Delsesto, Margarita Sabino, and Nicoletta Liburdi. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 5-7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, 10 a.m., meeting directly at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester.
