Ellen Schmedding

Ellen T. Schmedding, 95, of Manchester, passed away on Sunday, November 2nd at home with her family at her side. Ellen was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Hartford, daughter of the late Martin and Helen (Nuss) Tofeldt. She worked in retail as a manager for J. Garman Clothiers for 30 years. She was the widow of Alfred Schmedding, for whom she loved antiquing with in retirement. Ellen was a devoted and active member of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Manchester.
She is survived by three children and their spouses Thomas "Tom" & Janet Schmedding of Tolland, David "Dave" & Margaret Schmedding of South Windsor and Wendy & James "Jim" Connolly of Columbia: two brothers Daniel Todeldt of Vernon and William & Donna Tofeldt of Ellington: nine grandchildren Richard & Melanie Schmedding of South Windsor, Robert & Rachael Schmedding of Windsor, Katie & Keith Parent of Somers, Sean & Lisa Connolly of East Hampton, Jennifer & Courtney Malone of Colchester, Nicole & Graham Kolar of Lebanon, Holly Bazinet of Northborough, MA, Carrie & James Zevetchin of Coventry and Brian Schmedding of Sarasota, FL: seventeen great-grandchildren Vincent, Joseph, Benjamin, Hannah, Ryan, Adrianna, Connor, Logan, Kellan, Ellie, Hayden, Alayna, Aubrie, Isabelle, Brielle, Charlotte and JJ; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be on Monday, Nov. 10th at 11 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Tpke., Vernon, followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, Nov. 9th from 2-4 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester.
