Emily Velazquez Arroyo

Emily Velazquez Arroyo, 88, of Hamden, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born in New York, NY on September 17, 1936, a daughter of the late Miguel and Emilia (Diaz) Velazquez. She worked as a lunch aid in the New York City Public Elementary School System. Upon moving with her family to Connecticut, she worked at the Yale Law Library as a Book Monitor/Security. Subsequently, she spent the bulk of her career at the Department of Income Maintenance, State of Connecticut as Clerk / Switchboard Operator, retiring after 15 years. She volunteered at the Senior Center in Wallingford where she met and maintained many friends. She made everyone feel welcomed whether at her home or at the Center. She treated everyone with kindness and respect. She instilled these qualities in her family creating her legacy. In addition, she loved to crochet and cook. She shared this joy and knowledge with her daughters and granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Margaret Sein, William Arroyo and his wife, Yolanda, and Jeanette Nazario and her husband, Paul; her grandchildren, Traci-Lei Thomas, Michael Sein, Nelson Arroyo, Stephanie Pinder and Jonathan Nazario; her brothers, Jose Antonio Velazquez and Michael Velazquez; and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and beloved friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Luis Arroyo, her daughter, Lucille Arroyo and her sister, Lucila Ortiz. Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Sunday, February 2nd from 2:00 – 5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated directly at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony St., Wallingford on Monday, February 3rd at 10:00am.
