Ethel Carpenter Obituary
WINDSOR LOCKS - Ethel (Truelove) Carpenter, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Foster Wright Carpenter for 59 years.
Ethel was born December 4, 1930 in Winchester, CT, the daughter of the late Stella (Gordon) Truelove. She was raised by her loving grandmother, Lucy Gordon and her Aunt and Uncle, Ethel and Paul Crunden. In 1948, She married Foster and they went on to raise a family together, moving from place to place before eventually settling in Windsor Locks, CT. Her family was her greatest joy in life, and she always put her loved ones first, devoting time and energy to ensure that everyone else was happy and cared for. She enjoyed taking car rides, sitting by the water, and trips to the casino. Ethel also liked going shopping for knick-knacks, decorating her house, chatting on the phone with her friends and family, and spending time outside in her yard.
In addition, she loved baking and cooking; Preparing scrumptious holiday meals was a huge task that she proudly took on and somehow made look effortless. She especially valued celebrating holidays with her cherished family; She was happiest when her home was filled with loved ones. Ethel's legacy is one that exemplifies family, gratitude, and kindness; She will be dearly missed and remembered.
She is survived by her four children and their partners, Stephen and Doris Carpenter of Buxton, ME, Cheryl and Hugh Haun II of Ellington, CT, Leslie and Nicholas Lata of East Hartford, CT, and Lane Carpenter and Mark Moulton of Westbrook, CT; 6 grandchildren and their partners, Stephanie Gowen and Robert, Sandra Berthiaume and Jason, Hugh Haun III, Ronald Pelley, Jeffery Haun and fiancé Melinda Loiselle, Nicholas Lata Jr. and Sarah and Shelby Lata and fiancé Darius Hasiuk; great grandchildren, Evan and Lucas Pelley, Matthew Gowen, Cameron, Holstyn and Hadley Haun, Veronica, Christian and Patrick Lata and Hunter Lee; step-brother, Robert Truelove; and many close friends and family including Joan Winegar and Tiny Young. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Danielle Marie Pelley.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Beacon Hospice Services as well as the staff at Parkway Pavillion for their exceptional care and kindness.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 10 AM – 12 PM with a funeral service at noon. Burial will follow at West Hartland Center Cemetery.
