Eugene Mazo Obituary

Eugene "Gene" Douglas Mazo passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2025 at the age of 88. Gene was a bright light in this world, a man who radiated warmth, kindness, and love in everything he did. His was a life well-lived, full of family, laughter, resilience, and an ever-present twinkle in his eye. He was a devoted husband to his wife Jean for nearly 64 years and the sweetest father and grandfather, loving brother, and friend to all. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, a stand-up guy who made life easier for those around him-the kind you don't meet too often anymore. For those lucky enough to have known him, even just in passing, they knew that his presence had a way of making the world a little brighter. He was a man who carried his burdens quietly and rarely complained. He was a social butterfly and people loved to be around him. Gene was born on May 6, 1936 in Hartford, CT and grew up in Wethersfield, helping in his father's hardware store from the time he was just 12 years old. He went to The Loomis Chaffee School and Colby College before continuing in the family's Capital Hardware wholesale and retail business for his entire career until he retired at the age of 75. Upon retirement, Gene had a freelance driving business in which he had a loyal customer base of mostly ladies in town who loved his company. He then began driving for Uber and thoroughly enjoyed the connections he made with his passengers. When not working, Gene loved jazz, golf, visits to NYC and supporting his wife Jean in all of her artistic pursuits. But most of all, he loved being surrounded by the people he cherished.along with a good gin and tonic, always in a tall glass with two limes. Gene is survived by his wife, Jean Reisler Mazo; his daughter Wendy Mazo, his sister, Wilma Black (husband Barnett); his daughter-in-law Kelly Finn Mazo (partner Brian Drummey) and his beloved grandchildren Caroline and Sam Mazo. Gene is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Mary Einbinder Mazo, brother Barry Mazo, and his most cherished son, David Mazo. The family appreciates donations made to The Michael J.
