Frances Vessichio Obituary

Frances C. Vessichio, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on July 15, 1938, she was the beloved daughter of the late Angelo and Caroline Vercelone Squillo and the devoted wife of the late John Vessichio. Frances was owner of the Squillo Distrubuting Company that was located at 965 State Street New Haven up to its closing in 2015, a company founded by her father and uncle in 1930 and where Frances would learn the business that would eventually become a part of New Haven history. Frances was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Bridgeport where her studies lead her into her real passion Nursing. To say she had a passion for helping others would be an understatement, when not practicing nursing at Saint Raphael's Hospital where she was employed you would always find friends and family stopping by her store for help, a conversation or guidance it didn't matter she never turned anyone away. In her limited free time Frances was an accomplished classical pianist, here again at any given time you could walk into Squillos and you would here Frances entertaining the customers that may have stopped in for some tobacco products however got a little extra treat, the store was equipped with a piano as it was like a second home to her and her family. Frances had a love for animals, her home had cats and dogs and you could tell they had a love for her also, she was able to live out a lifelong dream when she was able to purchase a quarter horse " Chips Impressive " the joy it would give her to visit Chips at the stables and spend time with him was magical and a dream that she deserved, she helped so many it was a blessing to see this dream come true for her. Frances is survived by her son Angelo Vessichio who was her life and who was there by her side always. Also survived by many friends that will be forever grateful for her love and compassion, she made life better for so many that needed someone that understood their struggles, after a conversation with Fran you always walked away feeling better, a true gift she had. Private services have been entrusted to The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. Those who so desire can make a contribution in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org.

Angelo, I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I did not know her, but decades ago I grew up next door to your grandmother Lena. We lived at 155 Oakley St on the first floor and the Piccolo family lived on the second floor. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Angelo, so sorry to hear of your mom´s passing. My father was affectionately known as "Mr Squillo" since he always had a cigar in his mouth. Who would spend countless hours at the shop on State Street in the 60s and 70s. Rest in peace ma´am.

Rest in peace Fran. You were always so kind to me and such a great mom to Angelo. Your love of Angelo's music was easy to see as you attended every event that you could. Now, you are reunited with John. I will miss you. Angelo, we love you and are here to comfort and help you. Mike (Lip) & Denise Martino

I am sorry Angelo. Your Mom was one of kind, and probably the last connection left on upper state that lived through so many decades at the Squillo Shop. She saw it all, and always left her door open for strays. I thank you for the times in the shop. There was no one else like her. Men or Women, she had a way to connect with everyone. I pray she is at peace, and watching over you every minute of every day.
