Gary Childs Obituary

With hearts full of love and gratitude, the family of Gary Lee Childs announces his homegoing at the age of 64. Born on June 25, 1961, at Hartford Hospital, Gary was a beloved father, brother, son, cousin, and friend whose presence brought light, laughter, and joy to everyone blessed to know him. Gary was the cherished son of the late Mitchell Childs and Ethel Bell Childs and the grandson of the late Bishop James I. Wilkins and Mary Dixon. He grew up in Newington, Connecticut, graduating from Newington High School before continuing his education at the Eastern Connecticut State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in English. He went on to build a professional career as an insurance claims representative, but his greatest passions were never confined to the office. Gary was a devoted father to his daughters, Jade Lee Hayes (married to Stefone E. Hayes) and Jordyn I. Childs, who were his pride and joy. He treasured his role as a father, always encouraging, protecting, and cheering for his girls. Gary was also a beloved brother to Mitchell Childs Jr., and a dear stepbrother to Lisa Wellington, Beverly Wanza, Karen Wanza, Abena Wanza, and Patti Jackson. He adored his nieces and nephews, especially Derrick Molden, Brandy Williams, and Braye Nicole Childs-Lewis, and his wide circle of cousins and friends, all of whom he held close to his heart. A man of charisma and charm, Gary was known for his big laugh, warm smile, and easy way of connecting with people. He loved family gatherings, conversations that could stretch for hours, and dressing sharp in his favorite suits and ties. Though he often joked about his singing voice, he had a deep love for music and movies, and he was a true sports enthusiast-an avid basketball player in his younger years and a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. To his family, Gary was not just a relative-he was a protector, encourager, and friend. To his friends, he was magnetic, popular, and dependable. His laughter and stories left a mark that will be remembered for generations. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Final Arrangements, A service to honor Gary's life will be held at The Lodge Community Chapel & Reception Hall (130 Deerfield Rd, Windsor, CT 06095). Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The family welcomes all who loved him to join in celebrating his life and the everlasting hope found in Christ.
