Gary Stevens Obituary

Gary C. Stevens, 78, of Plainville CT, died Friday, September 5, 2025 at the VA Hospital in West Haven CT. Gary was born on January 14, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to the late Myrl and Lydia (Pearce) Stevens. He grew up in Connecticut and attended New Britain High School before proudly serving in the United States Air Force beginning in 1966. Gary spent much of his professional life working in computer programming. A man of many interests, Gary had a deep love of music and could often be found listening to songs of all genres. He was also passionate about aviation and spent many years as a fair-weather pilot, joyfully sharing the thrill of flight with others. His hobbies reflected his love of people and adventure, whether it was annual camping trips with lifelong friends Ray, Dave, Mike, Lenny, Fred & Roger or Thursday night setback games at the American Legion, Gary cherished time spent in good company. Known for his easygoing nature and quick wit, Gary had a joke for every occasion. His sense of humor could bring joy to those around him, and even in the most difficult times, he found a way to bring light and laughter. Gary touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who truly knew him. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Lydia & Myrl, brothers Thomas, James, Myrl "Ted" and Donald Stevens as well as his sister Lois Karanian. He is survived by his daughter, Holly Pirrotta, and her husband, Santo Pirrotta; his son, Daniel Stevens, and his wife, Sandi Stevens. He was a beloved grandfather to Sophia, Paolo, Alex, and Phoebe. He is also survived by his sisters Audrey and husband Jack Gasper of Hebron, CT, Norma DesRoches of Warwick, RI, his sister-in-laws, Virginia Stevens of Kensington CT, and Peggy Stevens of Unionville, CT as well as many nieces and nephews.
