Gary Dean Suess

Gary Dean Suess, 78, of Newington, passed away on October 6, 2025. He was born on April 17, 1947, to the late Oscar and Clara (Young) Suess. A longtime resident of Newington, Gary dedicated his career to public service. He retired as a detective from the Central Connecticut State University Police Department, also serving with the University of Hartford Police Department and as a former volunteer with the New Britain EMS. Gary had a zest for life and a great sense of humor that brightened every room. He loved motorcycle trips, camping, backyard "puttering," road trips, and visiting the casino. A devoted sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the Boston Red Sox and UConn Women's Basketball. Known for his infamous dad jokes, Gary had a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia Suess. His daughters Barbara Suess (Jay), Morgan Suess, Courtney (Chris) Fletcher, Laura (Kevin) Carragher; and his son Ryan Suess; and his cherished grandchildren Isabelle Adamo, Jaxton Fletcher, Peter, Jeffrey, and Jack Carragher. Gary also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, and adventurous spirit. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 15th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Visitations will continue on Thursday, October 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The burial will be held privately with family.
