George J. Smith Jr.

George J. Smith Jr., 81, a beloved resident of Old Saybrook, passed away March 29, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the proud owner of Smith Brothers Transmissions in Norwich for many years. A Proud Marine Corps veteran, George had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycles and generously shared his love of cooking by preparing meals for his cherished friends and neighbors. Always the first to offer a helping hand, George found immense joy in his garden, where he cultivated the most delicious tomatoes. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted companion and fiancée, Barbara Greene; his daughter, Stacey Smith-Kramer and her husband, BJ Kramer; his son, Daniel G. Smith and his wife, Amanda; his grandchildren, Brittany Biller, Morgan Smith and her fiancé, Brian Webber, Jacob Smith and Adam Smith; his brother, Douglas Smith and his wife, Pamela; his sister-in-law, Patricia Smith; and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his loving wife, Denise and his brother, Robert. A service to honor George's life will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11 am at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., followed by a celebration of his life at the Wallingford Elks Club from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Barbara and family warmly invite friends and colleagues to join them in celebrating his wonderful life. In lieu of flowers the family suggests considering a donation to Better Together Connecticut (www.bettertogetherct.org), an organization that offers free equine therapy and other valuable services to veterans.
