H. Norton Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of H. Jeanne Treat Norton announces her passing on September 23, 2025, at age 97. Jeanne was born on October 7, 1927, to the late Helen Larkins Treat and Richard Treat, and was the beloved wife of the late Frederick Norton.
Born and raised in Middletown, CT, Jeanne graduated from Middletown HS (46), where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. It was here that she met Fred, her high school sweetheart, and husband of 69 years (together for over 77 years). She was an excellent seamstress and was awarded "Best Dressed" in her high school yearbook, having made many of her own clothes.
Jeanne worked for Kabel's Luggage for many years, including using her artistic abilities to create window displays in both the Wethersfield and Middletown stores. She also volunteered at Middlesex Hospital for many years, earning an award for over 2000 hours of service.
Jeanne was a talented painter, and active member of the Middletown Art Guild. She continued to study art and improve her technique throughout her life and won many awards at local art shows.
Jeanne loved the beach, and she and her family spent many happy summer vacations over the decades at Little Stannard Beach–a tradition that continues today.
Jeanne was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and leaves her daughters, Cherie Norton (Rob LaBrie) and Jill Norton (Olcott Snow), both of Berlin; grandchildren Allison Halvorsen (Luke) of Chicago, IL, Michael Tierney (Christine Vargas) of Cromwell, and Benjamin Tierney (Kelli Roberts) of Berlin; and great grandchildren Lilia and Ruby Halvorsen, and McKenzie and Cora Tierney.
Jeanne was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Fred Norton; her sisters Janice Ferree and Marjorie Treat; and her nieces Lynn Violissi and Jane Bradbury.
Burial will be private.
