Herbert "Bert" Edward Bailey September 28, 1952 – March 13, 2025 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Herbert "Bert" Edward Bailey, who peacefully departed this world on March 13, 2025, at the age of 72. Surrounded by the love of his family, Bert found peace after a long illness, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and boundless generosity. Born on September 28, 1952, in New Haven, Connecticut, Bert lived a life full of adventure and warmth. He found joy in the simple pleasures-walking on the beach, playing ball with his beloved pups, and collecting treasures both big and small. A true camping enthusiast and an active philanthropist, Bert's giant, loving heart touched many lives. An eternal optimist, a gifted storyteller, and a compassionate caregiver, he had a way of making everyone feel special. His bright, warm smile could light up any room. Bert loved sharing stories that brought laughter and nostalgia. Bert was deeply devoted to his family. He was the beloved son of Joan Bailey and the late Alan Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Sally Tissari Bailey; his children, Tarren Bailey (Sam Kleinschmidt) and Liza Bailey; and his cherished siblings, David Bailey, Lisa Bailey, Liz Bailey (Henry Ottley), and Michael Bailey. He was also a proud uncle to Bailey Ottley, Scarlett Ottley, Alexa Goldenberg (Lucas Santora), Brooklyn Bailey, Jack Bailey, Audrey Bailey, Stephanie Smelser, Slade Engstrom, Scout Engstrom, and Spencer Engstrom. A funeral service will be held at Shure Funeral Home, 543 George St., New Haven, CT 06511, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bert's memory to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in Branford, CT, or the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter ( alz.org ).
