James D’Agostino Obituary
James "Jimmy D" D'Agostino, age 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Kathryne "Kate" (Turschmann) D'Agostino, the love of his life.
Born in Waterbury on September 2, 1947, Jim was the son of the late Nicholas and Antoinette (Cavallo) D'Agostino. A 1965 graduate of Crosby High School where he served at Class President, Jim also graduated from Husson College in Maine and held a Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Haven. Following in his father's footsteps, Jim began his career as a Waterbury police officer. He later worked as a Youth Counselor and Mentor at CJR of Litchfield for over 20 years.
A local baseball legend, Jim was a member in the American Legion Hall of Fame, and played in the Waterbury League for the Waterbury Timers, having led them to a National Championship in Battle Creek, MO. He also played for both the Waterbury Shakers and the Pearl Street teams. While in college, Jim signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
A man of deep faith, Jim lived a life devoted to service and was a proud parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. He made sure his neighbors were always cared for-mowing lawns, shoveling driveways, and lending a helping hand whenever needed. Generous with both his time and his heart, Jim often visited family and friends throughout the area, cherishing every connection. His happy place was Emerald Isle, North Carolina, where he and his family created lasting memories over many years of vacations together. The pride of his life were his triplet grandsons. He instilled within them the character and life values by which he lived and loved them immensely.
Jim is survived by his daughter Jamie D'Agostino, who cared for him throughout his illness and her partner in life, Jose "Joey" Alejandro of Waterbury and his beloved triplet grandsons, Jacob Alejandro, Noah Alejandro, and Evan Alejandro and his brothers-in-law David Turschmann and David Doss. He also leaves his nieces and nephews Matthew Ruh, Sara Mariano, and Nicole D'Agostino, and many cousins as well as his best friends Pudgie Maia, Ronald Hayes, Scott Jenkins and their families. He was predeceased by his brother David D'Agostino and his sister-in-law Barbara Turschmann.
Jim's family would like to thank his caregiver, Jazmin Maldonado as well as AccentCare Hospice Team for their tender care, especially his aide Tka, his nurse, Ilana and his social worker Melissa.
