Janet May "Stork" Walts

Janet Walts of Westfield, Mass passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rodman, New York, Janet was the daughter of George and Viola (Thompson) Stork. She was raised in Watertown, New York. She met the love of her life the late Carleton (Jack) Walts in Watertown. They were married in 1958 and then moved to Westfield, Mass where they raised their four children. Jan worked as a stenographer after graduating high school in 1955 before marrying Carleton. She also worked as a switchboard operator at Noble Hospital for seven years which she loved. She got together with her "Noble Girls" for years and worked at "Creations by Carleton" which they operated until 2020. Janet was a devoted member of the Second Congregational Church of Westfield where she made many life-long friends. She worked on many church suppers, tag sales, the Highland Group, she was a Sunday school teacher and many other things. So much so that her family dubbed her "Saint Janet". Notably, her and Carleton would perform each year in the the Church Cabaret. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing in the choir. She loved music and playing the piano. She was recently teaching her great-grandchildren to play the keyboard. She was loved by all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The grandchildren had many happy times camping in the RV with gram and gramps. They still tell stories of their canoeing and tubing adventures. She was a wonderful mother, a proud grandmother always on the sidelines cheering for her family, whether it was a game, a show, a concert, a recital or even a long swim meet. She was known as the fun grandmother who was always happy and smiling. Carl and Janet will be forever known as the "Dancing Grandparents" at all parties and wedding they would show off their jitterbug skills. Janet loved her camping adventures with her family. Carl and Janet traveled all over the US in their RV into their 80's. Their favorite places to visit were Hawaii and Myrtle Beach. Janet loved her family deeply. She loved hosting big family Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. All were welcome. Her door was always open for a listening ear. Janey was truly a beautiful soul. She had the gift of gab. She would talk to anyone who was in her path. Everyone loved her. She made friends wherever she went. She was a selfless woman. She took care of everyone. She loved her cat Snugs, her house, sunsets, writing poetry, writing stories, her infamous Christmas letters, going for rides, country music, ice cream, chocolate, swimming, going out to eat, and most recently watching the bunnies and cardinals at Jill's house (where she was living for the past few months). She loved life! Janet was predeceased by her parents, her husband Carleton in 2021 and her sister Jean. To cherish her memory, Janet leaves behind her loving children, Joseph Walts and his wife Holly, of Agawam, John (Jack) Walts and his wife Maryanne, of Westfield, Jill Moore and her husband Bruce, of East Longmeadow and Jay Walts and his wife AnnMarie, of Westfield. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Heather Carreiro, Jennifer Walts and, and her husband Alex Houpert, Joseph Walts and his wife Alyssa, Joshua Walts and his wife Jessica, Jonathan Walts, Justin Walts and his fiancé Kaylee Grabowski, Eric Moore and his wife Brenda, Adam Moore and his wife Liz, Shannon Rindone and her husband James, Julie Barry and her husband Justin, Thomas Brennan and his partner Jenna Serra, and Jolie Walts. Janet also has 18 great-grandchildren Gabriel, Arianne, Joseph, Lindsey, Ferris Brody, Nikolas, Jack, Amelia, Logan, Emily Lorelei, Sienna, Karalei, Brennan, Lillyana, Brayden and Briella. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Loren Walts and his wife Betty, Her sister-in-law Betty with her partner Bill Hastings and her sister-in-law Gail Ames. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Tuesday August 19th 4pm-6:30pm with a service to follow at Firtion Adams Funeral Service 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. Janet will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA on August 20th at 9am.
