João P. Grilo

João P. Grilo, 75, of Newington, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on September 29, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Olga (Medeiros) Grilo for 54 years. João was born in Manteigas, Serra da Estrela, Portugal on July 14, 1950, son of the late Jose Grilo and Teresa (Prata) Barbosa. He worked and retired from the Har-Conn Chrome Company. João enjoyed cooking and previously co-owned his own restaurant and catering business. In his free time, he loved being outdoors, he also enjoyed camping, gardening, hunting, and fishing. João cherished family time and get togethers with extended family and friends. He enjoyed trips with his family and going to Portugal to visit family and friends. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. João will be deeply missed. Along with his wife Olga, João is survived by his daughter Susana Grilo Merced and her husband Victor; and grandchildren Joel Merced and Briy, and Aneesa Merced and Makayla. He is also survived by his brothers Armando, Tó, and Paulo; sisters Maria do Rosario, Idalina, Manuela, and Maria do Céu; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. João was predeceased by his brothers Fernando and Luís. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with João's family on Saturday, October 4th from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Home at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. He will be laid to rest privately.
