John J. Flaherty

John J. Flaherty, 87, husband of the late Mary (Landers) Flaherty, passed away June 6, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in County Kerry, Ireland, son of the late Patrick and Johanna (Manning) Flaherty. Prior to his retirement, John was a well-respected custodian at Bulkeley High School in Hartford for many years. He was a member of the Irish American Home Society, as well as an usher at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church. Jack enjoyed traveling back home to Ireland with his family, visiting close relatives and friends, creating many lasting memories. He was an avid gardener, who shared his bounty with friends and neighbors. John will be greatly missed by his children, Sean Flaherty and his wife Luz of Newington, James Flaherty and his wife Tasha of NC and Joan Corradino and her husband James of West Hartford, his daughter-in-law Colleen Flaherty of NH, and his grandchildren, Brendan Flaherty, Kevin Flaherty, Declan Corradino, Erin Flaherty, Ciara Flaherty, Jameson Flaherty, Killian Flaherty, Ronan Flaherty and Marybel Flaherty. He is also survived by his brothers Martin O'Flaherty and his wife Mary, Joseph O'Flaherty, and Michael O'Flaherty and his wife Maureen and his sister Maire McCabe and her husband Pat all of Ireland, as well as his sisters-in-law Myra O'Flaherty of Ireland and Mary Flaherty of Chicago, IL. John was predeceased by his son Thomas Flaherty, his brothers Eugene, Thomas and Paud O'Flaherty and his sister-in-law Aine O'Flaherty. Friends may call on Thursday June 12, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 13, 2025 at 10:00 am in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church of Maria Reina de la Paz Parish, 484 New Britain Avenue, Hartford.
