Joyce May Obituary
On October 28, 2025 our mother, Joyce Ann Brockway May moved on to her next glorious journey with the lord after her courageous battle with cancer.
Joyce was born in New Haven, CT to Russell and Annette (Desanto) Brockway. Her parents instilled strength and independence in her that was her compass for life. Joyce found several places to call home, with her last years spent in Florida, South Carolina, Cape Cod and Connecticut. Her favorite days were spent volunteering her time and talents at the Hagood Mill Historic site in Pickens S.C. where she taught visitors about sheep shearing, how wool is made into yarn and demonstrating how to weave. Her talents didn't stop there, she also enjoyed knitting and she will be fondly remembered for making sure we all had her handmade warm wool socks. Her hands were rarely still, and she found joy weaving on her beautiful looms which she had collected, crafting, going to flea markets (where she sold her delicious homemade pies). She also treasured her many camping trips when traveling to Connecticut from South Carolina and making many friends along the way. Mom also had a special place in heart for her dogs. They were her constant loving, protective companions.
Mom was a free spirit and enjoyed every moment and adventure of her life. She loved nature and cherished the glory and tranquility of the great outdoors.
We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
Joyce is survived by her sister Marcia (Edward) LaCroix; her children Lisa A. Rogers (James), John R. Kmetz (Marilyn), Michele Gordon (Raymond), and Deborah J. Kmetz; grandchildren (step) Sabrina Singarella, Jacqueline Kmetz, Mark Gordon (Stephanie), John Gordon (Lexie), and great-grandchildren Ava, Emma, and Millie.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, William May, her parents, her brother Russell Brockway Jr. and her sister Linda E. Lanziero.
Services will be held privately, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society. To share memories or express condolences online please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.
