June Henton Obituary

June G. Henton, 93, of Glastonbury, CT, peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, CT. Born July 3, 1931 in Suffield, CT daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Baskerville) Hawkins. She was a dedicated, strong and loving matriarch - a mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and close friend whose love was unending and incomparable to all she knew. Her 93 years of life live on through those near to her, who feel her loss immensely and will forever hold dear to her memory. June grew up in Suffield, CT and graduated from Suffield High School. In the years that followed, she married the late Ivan Henton and had eight children. June worked for the State of Connecticut until her retirement as an Insurance Claims Adjuster. After her retirement, June remained a compassionate community member and dedicated her time to Kettle Brook Care Center in East Windsor, CT. She fought through, and overcame, a scare with pancreatic cancer and continued to live a life that centered on the strength and love of her family. A fashionista who believed firmly in always looking your best, a history buff who emphasized the importance of learning from our past, and a World War II movie enthusiast whose empathy was nothing short of unmatched, June was a multifaceted, God-fearing and truly incredible woman. June is survived by a sister, Audrey Hawkins of West Suffield, CT; seven children, Gary Henton of Atlanta, GA, Valerie Freeman of Atlanta, GA, Yvette Minnifield of Glastonbury, CT, Hope Henton-Platt of Windsor, CT, Lori Henton of Atlanta, GA, June Henton-Lewis of West Palm Beach, FL, Lisa Henton of Waldorf, MD; two son-in-laws, Anthony Freeman of Atlanta, GA, Aaron Minnifield of Glastonbury, CT; one daughter-in-law Kathryn Henton of Atlanta, GA; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Maurice Henton, and seven siblings, Kenneth Hawkins, Shirley Hawkins, Sherman Hawkins, Hope Berry, Nelson Hawkins, Alfred Hawkins, and Ronald Hawkins. Her family will receive friends Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield, CT followed by a 12:00 p.m. service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield, CT. I love you Grandma and will truly miss you! I will miss the summer vacations and Christmas gatherings at the old house. I will miss seeing you in Atlanta and spending time with you. I will ALWAYS love you.

Some of my fondest childhood memories were at Aunt June´s house. So many moments and experiences with her and her children-my cousins, who felt more like chosen siblings-shaped my life. Her home was the setting for countless occasions, life events, and simple visits filled with good times, laughter, and stories I´ll never forget. Aunt June always made time for everyone. I remember mowing her lawn, and it never felt like a chore or a job, it was an honor to help her.

When she sold her house . I worried we´d lose touch, but I´m so grateful that our bond stayed strong. Aunt June, I was truly honored to have you in my life. I had hoped you were on the mend, but that wasn´t the case. I´m so thankful we spoke before you went into the hospital and had the chance to say "I love you." Even more special was hearing you say it back: "I love you." Those words will stay with me forever.
