Louis A. Grimaldi, 82, of Somers, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of both family and finely restored automobiles.
Born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, Lou was the beloved son of the late Angelo and Josephine (Caramazza) Grimaldi. A man of tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment, Lou dedicated his career to serving his community, retiring as a Community Development Project Manager for the Town of Enfield. Before that, his expertise in facilities management made a lasting impact at multiple hospitals, including Mount Sinai, Johnson Memorial Medical Center, Rockville Hospital, and Sharon Hospital, where his meticulous attention to detail ensured excellence in every space he oversaw.
Beyond his professional life, Lou's greatest passion was found under the hood of a classic car. A true automotive enthusiast, he devoted countless hours restoring antique treasures, breathing new life into machines of the past. Among his prized restorations were a 1937 Dodge pickup, 1940 DeSoto and a 1933 Plymouth, each a masterpiece reflecting his patience, skill, and love for craftsmanship. His passion extended beyond his personal projects-he proudly volunteered for eight years at the Connecticut Trolley Museum, where he once served as past president, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others who shared his appreciation for history on wheels.
Lou's heart, however, belonged foremost to his family. He shared 18 beautiful years with his loving wife, Carolyn, whose unwavering support and companionship enriched his life immeasurably. He also is survived by his three children, Marie Lamotte and her husband, Todd; James Grimaldi and his wife, Paula; and Lisa Francis and her husband, John. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Grimaldi. His love extended to his brother, Anthony Grimaldi and his wife, Pat, his sister, Rosalie Grimaldi and his sister, Dorothy Grimaldi. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers. Lou's family will welcome relatives and friends for visitation beginning one hour prior, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Burial will be private and held at the family's convenience.

Whether meticulously restoring a classic car, mentoring others at the Trolley Museum, or simply enjoying the warmth of family, he approached life with care, precision, and an enduring passion for the things he loved. Though he may have taken his final ride, his spirit will forever linger in the hum of a finely tuned engine, the gleam of polished chrome, and the cherished memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
