Luis "Berto" Aponte Sr.

In Loving Memory of Luis "Berto" Aponte Sr. January 11, 1963 – May 1, 2025 Luis "Berto" Aponte Sr., a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away at home in Berlin, Connecticut, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the age of 62. Born and raised on the west side of New Britain in the close-knit community of Pinnacle Heights, he attended New Britain High School. Berto took great pride in his roots. He was known for his deep love for family, his protective spirit, and his lifelong passion for cars-especially his treasured 1963 Ford Thunderbird. From a young age, he had a natural talent for fixing cars, a gift he turned into a lifelong career. For over 40 years, Berto served his community as a skilled and generous auto mechanic, always ready to help those in need. He was the proud son of the late Ruth Aponte and Angel Luis Aponte Sr. He was predeceased by his brother Jorge David Aponte Sr. and nephew Jorge David Aponte Jr. Berto is survived by his four loving children: Derek Wilson, Latasha Mack (Ronald), Alicia Aponte, Luis Aponte Jr. (Vilmarie) as well as his siblings Jose Aponte, Angel Aponte Jr. (Robin), Rosamaria Guadarrama Merced (Jose), Rosalina Guadarrama (Will), his lifelong partner, Tonya Gardner and three grandchildren: Zachary, Raquasia, and Amahri. He also leaves behind a large extended family, friends, and a host of nieces and nephews who adored him. Luis "Berto" Aponte Sr. will be remembered for his kind heart, playful energy, fierce loyalty, and the strong bonds he maintained with everyone around him. His memory will live on through all those he loved and who loved him in return. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 11 AM at St. James Church, 45 Daly Ave., New Britain. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. A calling hour will be held at church from 10 to 11 AM. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain, is in charge of arrangements.
