Martha Jean Schleicher, 88, of Glendale Road, Oakdale, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on March 18, 1937, in Hartford, the daughter of the late Vincent and Helen Edgar.
Martha married the love of her life, Donald Bruce Schleicher, on June 18, 1956, in Henderson, North Carolina. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and devotion to family until his passing in 2005.
Martha was deeply devoted to her family and approached every role in her life with dedication and love. She cherished spending time outdoors with her husband and enjoyed countless adventures together throughout their marriage.
For more than forty years, Martha was an active and beloved member of the
St. Jude's Club at St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church in Waterford, Connecticut, where she served faithfully in many roles, including president.
She spent many years working in retail and became well known throughout the community for her engaging store demonstrations. Customers loved to visit her and often asked about her whenever she happened to be away.
A devout Catholic, Martha devoted her later years to prayer, offering her intentions for countless souls-both those she knew personally and many she did not.
Martha will be sadly missed but forever remembered with love by her children and extended family: her son Donald of Oakdale; her daughter Theresa and her husband, James Barry, of Stamford; her daughter-in-law Barbara Gorman of Falmouth, Maine; her brother William and his wife, Claire; and her sister Patricia. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren-Liam and Sarah Barry, Robert and Courtney Schleicher, and Phillip Schleicher-as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald; her son, Robert; and her brother, Vincent.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home in Colchester, Connecticut. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Andrew Church in Colchester, with burial to take place at Linwood Cemetery.
