Mary Rubano

Mary (Lavorgna) Rubano, age 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. She was the loving wife of the late Leucio Rubano.
Born in Waterbury on July 17, 1929, Mary was the daughter of the late Alexander and Rose (Vastola) Lavorgna. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and graduated from the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. Mary continued to work as a Registered Nurse at Waterbury Hospital for many years until her retirement. She was a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
A quiet, caring lady, Mary was devoted to her family. A wonderful homemaker, she took great pride in her home and enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden. She loved to cook and brought the family together over holiday meals. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren who brought her so much joy. An avid reader, Mary read everything from the daily newspaper to fiction and mysteries.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her son, Carl Rubano and his wife Bernadette of Myrtle Beach, SC, her grandchildren, Matthew Rubano and his wife Kelly Jackson-Rubano of SC, Thomas Rubano of AZ and Joseph Rubano of Watertown. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Gabrielle and Alexander, and her sister Carol Mongelluzo of Waterbury as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her sons, Edward Rubano and Joseph Rubano and her sister Lucille Czarsty.
A Memorial Mass will be said at a later date to honor both Mary and her son Edward, who passed away in 2023.
