Michael Stanco Obituary

Southington, CT Michael E. Stanco "Loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, coach, and friend" Michael E. (Coach) Stanco, 70, of Southington, formerly a longtime resident of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Monday February 10, 2025 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Joanne (Izzi) Stanco. Mike was born in Waterbury on June 15, 1954, son of Dianne (Dichele) Stanco of Southington and the late Ernest A. Stanco, Jr... Mike graduated from Sacred Heart High School Class of 1972. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal delivery worker (mailman) for 38 years until his retirement in 2012. He retired on Friday and started work at Waterbury Adult Education on Monday, where he mentored many students struggling to get an education. He was an avid sports enthusiast, who actively watched sports of all kind. He was an assistant coach of Holy Cross girls' basketball for over 30 years, where he impacted the lives of many girls to whom he devoted time and a love for basketball. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, bike riding and family vacations in Maine. He was proud of his daughters and his greatest pleasures were spending time with his grandchildren and with his basketball family. Besides his wife Joanne of 47 years and mother, he leaves to honor and cherish his memory; two daughters, Elisabeth Pasqua and her husband Daniel of Southington and Suanne Kolesnik and her husband RJ of Old Say brook; a brother, Ernest Stanco, III of Orlando, FL; two sisters, Karen Nappi and her husband Mark and Dianne "DeeDee" Hill and her husband Patrick all of Southington; a sister-in-law, Laurie Kenny and her husband Tom of Waterbury; a brother-in-law, Albert Izzi and Carol Ralston of Thomaston; three beloved grandchildren who he loved and adored, Sophia and Cooper Kolesnik and Olivia Pasqua; and his many beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren and a host of friends with whom he was very close. Mike was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Lucille "Ceil" Stanco. Arrangements: Calling hours will be held Saturday February 15, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury followed by a memorial service at 12:00 Noon. The funeral will end at the close of the service. Mike's family requests that when you think of Michael, you take a moment to think of those who suffer from depression and anxiety and you live your life with compassion, humor and love.
