I served with Paul in Germany at the end of the Cold War. Paul, 3 other Lieutenants and I rented a house in a small central German town called Abstatt. The house was quickly named "Haus Abstatt". With Paul's German language skills, we were welcomed by the local residents and formed a wide collection of friends. He was nicknamed "George" after George Will the Pulitzer Prize columnist. Paul was well read and could talk about a variety of topics so the name seemed to fit.
I remember Paul as an "Adventure Seeker". Much of his vacation time was spent traveling Europe or trying to catch a military flight to any random country. His vacation stories were always filled with adventure, knowing Paul I knew they were all true.
When I returned from Germany, my wife and I married on one of the coldest days on record in N. Indiana, sub zero temperatures and 3 feet of snow. The weather did not stop Paul from being there and ready to toast the bride and groom.
Regrettably, both of our work travel made it difficult to stay in contact. He was a good friend, patriot and officer who cared for his soldiers. Fair winds and following seas Paul.

Paul was an extremely likable guy and a part of our 81 boarder group from McCallie. He was a devoted McCallie Blue tornado and a prankster with the security cops when we snuck out to play Weekend Warriors on campus. Will miss him at our future reunions. Life well lived and prayers to his family.
