Robert Mercik Obituary

Robert T. Mercik, 87, of Suffield, CT passed away with his four loving children by his side on Friday (January 10, 2025) at Suffield House. Bob was born, May 17, 1937, in Springfield, MA the son of the late Henry J. Mercik, Sr. and Helen V. (Corbett) Mercik. Bob was a three sport athlete and proud graduate of Enfield High School Class of 1955. He continued his education at American International College (AIC) and was a distinguished two sport athlete in football and baseball. As a senior, he was awarded the AIC Alumni Award as the Student Athlete of the year and graduated as the salutatorian of his class with a degree in Accounting. He was a proud member of the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1966, he earned the Nutmeg Award for achieving the highest score on the CPA exam in the State of CT. Bob began his professional career working for Arthur Andersen and eventually worked for the Internal Revenue Service. In 1967, Bob realized his dream of establishing his own accounting firm in his beloved hometown of Enfield, CT. Bob served the community of Enfield, the greater Hartford area and beyond with professionalism, integrity and kindness before retiring from Mercik & Bolduc, LLC in 2002. Bob's proudest accomplishments were his marriage and his family. He married the love of his life, Joyce, on August 17, 1963 and celebrated 56 years of marriage. Bob's true purpose in life was loving Joyce. His devotion, unwavering love and commitment to her was an inspiration to everyone who witnessed their love affair. Bob and Joyce welcomed four children into the world and took great pride in raising them. Bob enjoyed watching and coaching his four children playing sports and celebrated their lives as they started families of their own. He was the loving and proud Granddad of eight grandchildren. Bob also loved the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants, and his love for the Hartford Whalers was only superseded by his heartbreak of them leaving CT. He enjoyed traveling to Italy with Joyce and friends; however, his favorite place to spend time was at their house on Lake Champlain in VT. There, Bob loved to fish, work in his garden, sharing a glass of wine overlooking the Lake with Joyce, and officiating the most competitive Wiffle Ball Tournaments ever seen on the Lake with his family. It was at the Lake with family and friends, that Bob was the most content and happy. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Joyce and is survived by his four loving children, Robert Mercik, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of West Suffield, Steven Mercik and his wife Mary of Enfield, Lynn Brennan and her husband Kevin of Marblehead, MA, and Susan Davis and her husband, Ross of Suffield; his eight beloved grandchildren, Jack and Maggie Mercik, Benjamin, William, and Brooke Brennan, Katherine, Allison, and Charles Davis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and James Mercik. Bob's family would like to thank Suffield by the River and Suffield House for the compassionate care they provided during his illness. Services and a celebration of life will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Ste. 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to the Lake Champlain Land Trust, One Main Street, Suite 205, Burlington, VT 05401.
