Sevasti Lambros Obituary
Sevasti Lambros, 85, of Manchester, CT beloved wife of the late Michael D. Lambros passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at home. Sevasti was born in Soroni, Rhodes, Greece and was the daughter of the late Nikitas and Barbara (Moustouha) Karanikis. Sevasti immigrated to the United States with first-born child, Eleni in 1958 to reunite with her husband Michael, who arrived two years prior, in 1956, so he could prepare for their new life together. This American dream paved the way for Sevasti and Michael's siblings and extended families to emigrate from Greece and join them to establish their lives as well in Connecticut.
Sevasti is survived by her three daughters Eleni Diakostavrianos and her husband George, Effie DiBenedetto and her husband Salvatore and Barbara Sorosiak and her husband, Mark. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Despina Petrides and her husband, Savvas, sister-in-law Maria Karanikis and brother-in-law Nicholas (Niko) Mariettos. Sevasti was predeceased by her siblings Eleni Karanikis, George Karanikis and Hrisafina (Nina) Mariettos.
She leaves behind her eight cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Diakostavrianos, Michael Diakostavrianos and his fiancée, Lindsey, Anthony DiBenedetto, Christopher DiBenedetto, Jason DiBenedetto and his wife, Stephanie, Stephanie Sorosiak, Amara Sorosiak and Andreas Sorosiak, and four great-grandchildren, Brynn Diakostavrianos, Livia Liebman, Milo DiBenedetto and Luna DiBenedetto. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge all their accomplishments and milestones. Additionally, she leaves behind her dearest godsons, Peter Douros, Nikitas (Nick) Karanikis, Frank Pappas and Jerry Pappas along with her beloved nieces and nephews, Irene, Nick, Barbara, Eleni, Anna, Barbara, Nick and Elaine who were all like her own children growing up together as one large family.
Some of her fondest memories were of the extended families getting together for Sunday summer picnics at Rocky Neck Beach and Harkness Memorial Park. Often designated as the one to get there first to stake claim to the picnic tables, she gladly took on this responsibility. It gave her a chance to peacefully enjoy the beach and listen to the ocean waves and see the morning sun as it glistened off the water before everyone else arrived. She was most at peace by the water as it reminded her of her childhood growing up on an island. Discovering Cape Cod became her passion, and she faithfully returned every summer as this became the family vacation destination, often with nieces and nephews in tow because she never wanted to leave behind any of the family's children, especially if they loved the beach as much as she did. When Sevasti wasn't at the beach, you could find her tending to her plants and flowers. Although quite fearful of snakes, she continued vegetable gardening at the family home in East Hartford for many years after Michael's passing, prior to moving to Manchester. He would have been proud of her bravery and her green thumb. The love of her St. George Greek Orthodox church community was never more evident than the first weekend in June for the annual Greek festival. She and her "Nee-nee" Nina, her younger sister, along with a small army of Greek women worked tirelessly to prepare and serve some of the best Greek food around and she did it with such delight and satisfaction. Sevasti took pride in being independent throughout her entire life and worked while raising her and Michael's three daughters. Shortly after arriving in the United States, her first job was working at a pie company in Hartford, then for Royal Typewriter. She also managed the family-owned Sullivan Avenue Package Store in South Windsor from the late 70's until 1983, then went onto to work for Scan-Optics until the mid 1990's and retired as a quality controller for Accutron in Windsor, CT in 2005. She left an indelible impression on all that knew her. She will be missed by her friends from near and far, including those she kept in touch with from Canada and Greece and her church community. We appreciate everyone's kindness and willingness to help our mom over the years, especially her "Golden Girls" neighbors, Lois and Millie and caregiver, Rosa.
