Sheila Ortiz Obituary

Ortiz, Sheila "Sheilini" Sheila Ortiz, 86 of Newington, passed away peacefully at home in Newington on Saturday October 18, 2025. She will always be remembered for her charm, everlasting friendship, generosity and kindness. She lived 55 years in Connecticut, having arrived from Colombia, South America in 1969. Sheila will be missed immensely by her surviving beloved husband Hernando Ortiz, her daughter Maria Victoria "Vicky" and son Alejandro "Alex". Sheila was an extraordinary and dedicated wife, mother and daughter. Loved by her granddaughter Victoria Eugenia and daughter in-law Patricia Calderon. Sheila is survived by her brothers, Eduardo Gonzalez and his wife Ana and Franklin Gonzalez and his wife Maria Elina and their families, all of Florida. Her sister Vicky, who was the youngest of the siblings, has been resting in peace since 2008. Upon arriving to Connecticut in 1969, Sheila demonstrated her dedication to the well-being of her family, exemplified by the 30 years at Newington Children's Hospital. Sheila adapted well to the way of life in Connecticut and proudly became a Citizen of the United States of America on March 14, 1986. Sheila will be remembered and missed by many. Her best friend Maria Goncalves and husband Franclim from Newington, cousin Richard Herrera and Wife Milagros "Blanca" and their dear families of New Britain, always joyful and present in Sheila's adult life. In 1993, after 24 years, Sheila visited her city of birth Cali, Colombia with her husband Hernando. It was a memorable trip where Sheila met and shared special moments with the Ortiz, Escobar, and Santander Families. Sheila will be in their hearts forever. Sheila's passion was dancing especially salsa and tropical Latin music. Her colorful energy especially in social gatherings with her lively personality and love of music was truly projected. She loved to travel and enjoyed numerous trips to Puerto Rico to live and feel its vibrant atmosphere with family. As well as sharing and enjoying special moments with her brothers Franklin and Eduardo and their families in Florida. Sheila also leaves her husband's family with whom she shared treasured memories, sister-in-law Elizabeth and spouse Fernando Vargas, and brother-in-law Gustavo Ortiz and spouse Angela, and their families.
