Suzanne Elder Strecker

Suzanne Voorhees (Elder) Strecker "Gobby," continued her journey on September 13, 2025, with dark chocolate on her lips and the odor of Shalimar in the air. She went to join her friends and family, especially her husband Arthur. She was born in Newcastle, PA on July 27, 1930, the daughter of Charles Voorhees Elder and Ruth Whaley Elder. She was graduated from Newcastle High School in 1948 and Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia in 1952. She studied for her master's degree at the University of Buffalo and Central CT State University. She taught school in Newcastle, PA and Grand Island, NY before moving to CT. She taught at Harbur Middle School, Burlington for many years and retired in 1990. She was active at West Avon Congregational Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and Adult Education. She enjoyed being at home in later years reading, stenciling, quilting, and sewing small things, especially heating pads, that she thought others could use. She is survived by her children Leslie Krebs Obrizzo and her husband Richard of Ocala, FL and her daughter Lauren Bayersdorfer; her son Kenneth Dean Krebs and his wife Mickie of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Shawna and David Delahanty; and her step-son David Phelps Strecker and his wife Sarah of Canton. She is also survived by her cousins Sally Whaley Werlenick of Greenville, PA and Dr. Jay Whaley of Palo Alto, CA. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur and daughter Linda Krebs and sister Diana Hutcheson and nephew Dr. Philip Hutcheson. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11 AM at the West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road, Avon. Private Burial will be in West Avon Cemetery, A Reception will follow at the Carmon Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon following the Memorial Service for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the West Avon Congregational Church in her memory.
