Virginia Huisman Obituary
Virginia (Melillo) Huisman, "Gin, Ginny, Gram, Babute and Auntie Ginger" to her friends and family, was born on June 13, 1941 has moved on into eternal life on March 10th 2025. Virginia had a wonderful, amazing life and was a friend to so many over the years in Connecticut and Florida. She was a softball coach for years in the mid 70's at "The Pit" in Foxon, where she taught girls the skills to take them from not being able to throw a ball or swing a bat to the Championship year after year. She and her sister PJ owned The Beaded Banana for years in East Haven. Being a very talented floral designer, Auntie Ginger would design incredible bouquets and floral arrangements for her nieces, nephews and children's weddings and special occasions. She loved to draw and paint, to dance, boating, swimming and road trips from Canada to Florida to Long Island to California and Mexico with her sisters, children, niece and nephews.
Gin leaves behind her children; Christina Mullally (Michael Sr.) of New Haven, Jan Huisman Jr. (Elisa Gobany) of East Haven and Victor Huisman (Lisa) of North Branford along with her grandchildren; Michael Mullally Jr., Kellie Mullally, Matthew Mullally, Michelle Laudano, Lauren Mullally, Benjamin Mazzucco, Victor Huisman Jr., and Alex Huisman.
Virginia is also survived by her six great-grandchildren; Morgan Mullally, Michael Francis Mullally III, Matthew Mullally Jr., Erin Mullally, Dillon Mullally, Michael Vincent Mullally and Aldo Aman, a sister, Phyllis Shanahan, her brother, Pasquale Melillo (Linda), and Ralph Rosato Sr, along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, Pasquale and Adeline (Zurkus) Melillo, her sisters, PJ Rosato, and Dolly Rose and brother-in-laws, Robert Rose and John Shanahan.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Friday March 14, 2025 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 15 at 10 AM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home followed by the burial at Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven. Brundreth Street, Springfield MA 01109 in memory of Virginia Huisman.
