Wayne Six Obituary
Wayne Anthony Six passed from this earthly life into eternity on Monday, November 3, 2025, after a short illness at 95 years of age. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 28, 1930. His father, Wayne G. Six, and his mother, Agnes Six, raised him in Quincy, Illinois. His brother Richard, and sister, Sallie Gehring, preceded him in death. He is survived by Patricia Brinkman Six, his loving wife of 72 years, his three children and their spouses, Stephen and Gail Six, Cynthia and Andrew Montanaro, and Michael and Julia Six, as well as 22 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
Wayne and Patricia were married at St. Francis Solanus Church in Quincy, Illinois, on June 26, 1953. They honeymooned via train to El Paso, TX, where Wayne was stationed with the Army and Pat taught elementary school. They moved back to Quincy a year later where Wayne worked at his father's bar across from City Market. He roller-skated behind the bar to more quickly serve customers their lunch and beer. After their first son, Stephen, was born, they moved to St. Louis. Later they lived in Normandy, MO, where Cynthia and Michael were born, and then Furgeson, MO.
Wayne worked as a draftsman for McDonald-Douglas in St. Louis, MO, and then as a systems engineer at IBM in St. Louis and Poughkeepsie, NY. He was a lifelong student, taking night classes to earn a masters degree in religious education from St. John's University in Queens, NY, after having attended the University of Notre Dame and St. Louis University.
He was very actively involved in the Pro-Life movement, even spending time in jail twice with Operation Rescue. He was known as "Skinny" and "Music Man" because he kept up the spirits of others with his singing of hymns and show tunes.
In the mid-80's he took early retirement and bought a beautiful property on a lake in Hampton, NY. He built a garage with logs he had milled himself, and then built a log house. The family spent many memorable vacations at Hearthstone, working and playing "in the house that Wayne built."
For the past seven years, he and Patricia lived with his daughter Cindy and son-in-law Andy and near his grandson Paul and his family. Wayne was an avid golfer and card-player; he loved to bowl and play cork ball, and was a big puzzle-maker in his later years.
Wayne was a very faithful Catholic and a great example of charity, hope, and faith to his extended family. In retirement, he and Patricia were daily communicants. He prayed the Rosary and read his Magnificat daily. He taught us all to offer hospitality to family, friends and strangers. He was generous to all and kind to all he met.
We ask his family and friends to pray for his everlasting soul - especially during this octave of All Souls' Day. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Thomas Aquinas College or Bethlehem House, Easthampton, MA. His wake is set for 9:30-11:30 am on Friday, November 7 at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. The funeral Mass will be at 12:00 noon, with his grandson, Fr. Thomas Montanaro, celebrating, at Holy Trinity Church, 335 Elm Street, Westfield, MA. The burial will follow Mass at St. Thomas Cemetery in Huntington, MA.
