Alice Hurwitz Obituary Alice Virginia "Ginny" (Holt) Hurwitz, 95, of Carthage, IL, passed away early on Friday, May 9, 2025, at The Kensington in Fort Madison, IA. Ginny was born on November 19, 1929, at her home near Monroe City, MO. She was the daughter of George Grover and Maude Alice (Buckman) Yates. Ginny graduated from Holy Rosary School in Monroe City in 1947. She then went on to study at Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. On June 9, 1951, she was united in marriage to Jack Perry Holt at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1964. In 1976, Ginny was united in marriage to John Gordon Hurwitz at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1996. Ginny was recently honored for 54 years of service as secretary and treasurer for the Carthage Elementary and unit school districts. She also taught night classes for secretarial skills. Ginny spent time working at Gardner Denver and later for Western Illinois Electrical Coop for 25 years. She volunteered as a 708-board member for Hancock County Mental Health and a board member for the Mental Health Authority in Quincy for many years. Ginny was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and assisted with pledges for the Diocese of Peoria. She also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. Ginny especially enjoyed a game of bridge with friends. Ginny is survived by her three daughters, Beverly (Jim) Wilson of Carthage, IL, Susan (Charles) Strubinger of Foristell, MO, and Deborah (Curtis) Wilhite of Carthage; her grandchildren, Dan (Kim) Holt, Cassandra (Matt) Sadilek, Jamie (Cory) Stear, Jennifer Wilson, Kelli (Scott) Kirchoff, David (Hillary) Strubinger, Curtis (Cameron) Strubinger, Travis (Suzanne) Wilhite, Kristin Wilhite, and Pam Holt; her 25 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Gregory (Mary) Yates of Lees Summit, MO; her sister in law, Frances Yates of Monroe City, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her children, Jack Jr, Jon, Jimmy, Marilyn and Julie, her grandsons, Jack Holt and Tim Holt, her daughter in law, Madonna Holt, her siblings, Mary Agnes Yates, Elizabeth Janes, Harry Yates, Lucy Broughton, George Yates, Rita Maher, Frankie Maddox, and numerous sisters and brothers in law, nieces, and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 4 pm on Wednesday, May 14, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be made out to the Holy Rosary Schools in Monroe City, Saints Peter and Paul School, or the Mental Health Center of Western Illinois. Printy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
