Ann Kendrick Obituary
Leslie "Ann" Kendrick, age 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 29, 2025, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Ann was born on May 13, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of the late 2nd Lieutenant James Leslie McNaughton and Janet Roberta Nease. Ann's father died before she was born, LT McNaughton died Feb 2, 1945 in an airplane crash near Naples, Italy in WWII. Janet would later marry Colonel Thomas William Bender, following their marriage Ann was adopted by Thomas. Ann and her siblings Barbara (Allen) Ackland and Thomas Bender Jr (they survive) lived in multiple places during her father's career to include several years in Washington D.C. and Turkey before Colonel Bender's retirement in Leavenworth, KS.
Ann was introduced to Jim Kendrick in Dec. 1967 by her friend Jan and Jim's brother Don when he arrived on leave from the Air Force over Christmas. After Jim's discharge from service they continued to see each other as Ann would make many trips by train from Kansas City to Lakenan, Mo to visit Jim as he helped his parents on their farm South of Lakenan. At some point she made the decision this city girl could "tame" this country boy and they were married July 13, 1968 in Leavenworth, KS.
Jim and Ann worked on their farm South of Lakenan for many years. She would also work at Diemakers in Monroe City as an inspector in the aluminum division. Ann enjoyed her time at Diemakers and would speak often of the people she worked with long after leaving. In later years, Jim and Ann bought and built a trash service in the area before selling the business and retiring.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Kendrick, and their three children: Aaron Kendrick (Missy) of Shelbina, MO; Chris Kendrick of Bevier, MO; and Jamie Kendrick (Jennifer) of Moberly, MO. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Will Kendrick of Paris, MO, Addie Kendrick of Moberly, MO and three step-grandsons Dalton Buckman of Shelbina, MO, Cameron Prange of Moberly, MO and Logan Prange of Colorado.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Lt. James McNaughton, Col. Thomas William Bender and Janet Roberta Nease.
Ann loved to cook and especially enjoyed preparing meals for the large Kendrick get togethers. When not cooking in the kitchen Ann would supervise Jim keeping their bird feeders filled so she could sit on her stool and look out her kitchen window watching and identifying the species.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors or Monroe County Cancer Supporters.
