Bernard Carr Obituary
Bernard Roger Carr, 82, of Bushnell, Illinois passed away on July 12, 2024 at his residence. He was born March 4, 1942 in Avon, IL to Roger Alvin and Cleone Bell (Homer) Carr. He married Carolyn Kay Zuck in Bushnell, IL on April 22, 1962. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deann (Rick) Hall of Astoria, IL; April (Tony) Tatham of Avon, IL; seven grandchildren, Jacob (Sami) Roach, Alexis (Josh Kumer) Roach, Holdyn Yerk, Dawson Hall, Bronson (Carly) Tatham, Brayden and Gracie Tatham; five great-grandchildren Rylan, Adalynn and Sophia Kumer, Brooks and Ellie Tatham.
Bernard was born, raised, and farmed in the Avon area his entire life. His professional life was spent in the heavy-duty road construction arena. His start in construction began with his father where they built Little Swan Lake in Avon and then Lakelawn Estates in Bushnell where he lived with Carolyn from 1969 until his passing. Much of his career was with McDougal Hartmann in Mossville, IL, where he was responsible for the I74 and I474 projects. He later worked for Gunther Construction in Galesburg, IL and received an award from the State of Illinois for his contribution to the major reconstruction of North Henderson Street. Toward the end of his career, he was actively involved in all the dirt work preparation required to build the EastSide Center Sports Complex in East Peoria. Bernard was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #649 in Peoria, IL for over 55 years.
Bernards greatest joy came from time spent with his family. He loved attending and never missed his childrens and grandchildrens events, no matter the distance. He was completely selfless and everything he did was to ensure that his family was taken care of.
He was a commander with the Bushnell American Legion Post #2004 and served on the Veterans Assistance Commission of McDonough County (VACMC) for many years, resigning only 2 weeks ago due to his health.
