Dannie McHone, Age 85, of Plymouth IL passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Blessing Hospital, in Quincy, IL. He was born June 9th, 1940, to Henry McHone and Pearl Powell. Dannie grew up mostly in the Colchester, IL, area as well as Prairie City, IL. He went to high school in Colchester. He was always a hard worker. He delivered newspapers, set pins at the bowling alley, worked at the Colchester brickyards, and even worked for the rail road before he was 20. He married Linda Zimmerman when he was 17, fathered 4 children in 6 years, Rick, Paul, Lynette, and Michael. He purchased a farm at just 21 years old, and moved to rural Plymouth where he purchased another farm when he was only 25, where he raised his family.
In his early 20's he worked at the Porcelain factory, then to Bowers where he was one of the first people hired by the new company. He worked for both Bowers and Porcelain at the same time while having a farm with cows, pigs, chicken, sheep, dogs, and more. He was always full of energy, finding time for hobbies, like coon hunting, and a sport called water racing that he did with his coon dogs. He and his dogs became state champs, in Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, and Wisconsin 3 times. He, along with his family traveled to these places and camped out in tents until the early 70s. He then purchased a 3rd farm. In the early 80's he built and designed his latest residence. In 1982 he divorced.
Dannie was united in marriage at the First Christian Church in Macomb on April 2, 1983, to Barbara Emery. Together they raised 2 families, as well as working their farms and traveling. As Dannie's eye sight worsened he retired from Bowers, he had worked his way up to supervisor (he was a supervisor for 33 years) where he was loved by all. Together, he and Barbara started restoring antique cars, and going to car shows, with Barbara driving.
Together they completely restored 8 different cars, winning many car shows with each car. He always enjoyed visiting with all who ventured by. They loved the music from the 50's, and danced in competitions. Dannie in the white t-shirt and Barb in her poodle skirt. They even built a 50's diner in the basement of their home. He always enjoyed seeing their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would sit on the front porch and wave at the passersby, sometimes they would stop and visit and share a glass of homemade wine that they had made. Dannie never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation. Dannie loved his family and life in general and everyone in it. Most of all Dannie loved Barbara. They spent the last 42 years together and he will be waiting for her in heaven.
Surviving to mourn his passing is his wife Barbara McHone, Plymouth, IL, 2 sons: Rick (Robin ) McHone, Plymouth, IL, Paul (Carla) McHone, Industry, IL, 3 daughters: Anita Carey, Keokuk, IA, Terri (Roger) Gray, Macomb, IL, Cindy (Greg) Butler, Macomb, IL, 1 sister Tawnya (Doug) Tenhouse, Quincy, IL, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
