David Ogle Obituary
David W. Ogle, 95, of Macomb formerly of Bushnell passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Elms. He was born on February 4, 1929, in Prairie City Township, Illinois, the third son of John M Ogle and Esther (Moore) Ogle. He married Peggy R Miller on September 9, 1949. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Ogle, and sisters-in-law, Rosalea Ogle and Annaree Ogle.
David is survived by one brother, Robert Ogle, of Bushnell, three children, Becky (Bob) Fitzgerald of Macomb; John (Jennifer Jones) Ogle of Macomb; and David Ogle of Peoria Heights, IL; and five grandchildrenMichele Ault of Trivoli, IL, Amy (Dalen) Schipper of Parkersburg, IA; Rob (Sunny) Fitzgerald of Frederick, CO; John Richard and Jake Ogle of Macomb. Two nieces and a nephew as well as several great and great great-grandchildren also survive him.
David graduated from Bushnell High School in 1946 and began farming with his father and two brothers. He held numerous positions and public service offices after leaving the farm for "city life" in Bushnell. He served as the Mayor of Bushnell of which he was most proud, served on the Board of Education as President and gave all three of his children their diplomas at their graduations. He was an active member of Macomb Elks Lodge and Bushnell Rotary Club. In recent years, along with his wife, he was a "greeter" at Wal-Mart in Macomb.
David was an avid sports fan, especially Chicago Bears and Cubs. He verbally replayed many of his high school football and basketball games in his later years and enjoyed watching sons and grandsons participate in sports as well. He was a member of Bushnell Golf Course for many years and was Club Champion in 1958. He helped change the greens of the course from sand to astro-turf and then back to grass during his time as a member.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday March 19, 2024 at the Bushnell Township Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Rene Whitaker officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or to the Elms Activity Fund. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
