Janet A. Brandmill, age 85, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 10:55 PM.
Janet was born on October 28, 1939, in Columbia, Missouri, to Erman and Winnie (Crawford) Ingram. She married Jack D. Brandmill on October 28, 1984, in Quincy. Jack preceded her in death on August 8, 2010.
A proud graduate of Quincy High School in 1957, Janet earned her Bachelor's degree from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, and later received her Master's degree from the University of Iowa, where she met her beloved husband, Jack. Janet's professional career as a physical therapist at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, reflected her compassion and dedication to others.
Janet was a devoted and loving daughter, with a special bond to her parents, especially her mother, Winnie. Janet took time away from her professional career to assist and care for her beloved mother in the years leading up to Winnie's passing. Janet's deep love for her family was evident in everything she did, and she was always there for those who needed her.
Janet embodied the true meaning of friendship. Her warm and generous spirit drew people to her, and her sense of humor, along with her genuine interest in others, made her a beloved friend to many. Some of these friendships lasted more than 70 years, and she remained a steadfast, loyal, and caring presence in the lives of those who knew her. Janet's friendships were more than just relationships-they were lasting bonds built on love, support, and shared laughter.
Janet was an active and devoted member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Janet professed her faith through her involvement in church activities and Bible fellowship, and her belief was a cornerstone of her life. Janet was also a committed volunteer with Young Life, a Christian ministry that reaches out to young people of all ages. She opened her home to provide a safe, supportive environment for young people in need of a temporary place to stay, offering both warmth and kindness. In addition to her hands-on work with young people, she generously supported many causes and organizations, giving in a way that reflected her caring nature.
A lifelong member of the Quincy Country Club, Janet loved hosting family and friends for lunches and dinners. Many of her family's holidays, from Easter to Mother's Day, were celebrated at the club, where she enjoyed spending time with those she loved. Janet also spent many hours playing Bridge with her dear friends, affectionately known as "The Nitwits."
Janet's love for animals was another cornerstone of her life. She had a special bond with her dog companions, including Zach, Zena, and Zebby, but her most cherished friend was Zippy. Zippy accompanied Janet on many road trips, offering loyal companionship and affection. Their bond was unbreakable, and Zippy stayed by Janet's side until the very end, a true friend in every sense of the word.
Janet is survived by her son, John Brandmill of Chesterfield, MO, and three grandchildren, Douglas R. Brandmill, Caitlin Brandmill, and Julia Brandmill, all of Chesterfield, MO, her beloved dog Zippy and her cats Itty Bity Kitty and Oink.
In addition to her husband, Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Douglas D. Brandmill
