A self-employed vintage lumber dealer, Hammer was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to find beauty in the reclaimed wood he so lovingly restored. His passions extended beyond his work; he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, often seen riding his Harley hardtail chopper. Hammer's love for speed and competition was evident in his days as a stock car racer, where he raced car #33 around dirt tracks.
When not on the move, Hammer was a dedicated sports fan, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bulls. His musical tastes ranged from rock and roll to country, and on long drives, he found solace in listening to religious channels. Above all, Hammer cherished time spent with friends and family. He was the life of any gathering, whether it was attending cookouts with his favorite BBQ dishes, enjoying margaritas at El Rancherito, belting out tunes during karaoke nights, or simply sharing quiet moments at his mom's or dad's house. His humorous nature was a beacon of light; he had an uncanny ability to tease and crack jokes, ensuring that those around him were always smiling. His light-hearted approach to life, his generosity of spirit, and his unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends and Family are invited to Hammer's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Friday, July 25, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.
