Larry Tate Obituary
Larry D. Tate, 75, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 11:00 PM, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.
Burial with full military honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.
Friends and Family are invited to Larry's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the funeral home.
The family requests that those who attend to dress in the style of Larry, with jeans and t-shirt, jersey or sweatshirt. It can be their favorite sports team or support of the military.
Larry was born December 3, 1949, in Hannibal, MO to Roy Davis Tate and Mae Pauline Leffert Tate.
He was married to Barbara Rice on June 14, 1969, in Hannibal, MO. She survives.
Other survivors include his two children, Dawn Weber of St. Charles, MO, and Scott Tate of St. Charles, MO; three brothers, James Tate (Ruth) of Quincy, IL, Carl Tate (Carol) of Hannibal, MO, and Dennis Tate (Kellie) of Hannibal, MO; two sisters, Lea Vaughn of Hannibal, MO, and Kathy David (Danny) of Hannibal, MO; sister-in-law, Barb J. Tate of Ohio; one grandchild, Caitlin Weber; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Roberta Tate; brother, Bob Tate; brother-in-law, Larry Vaughn; two uncles, Jimmy Leffert (Betty) and Charlie Leffert (Betty).
Larry served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Professionally, Larry worked at Quincy Soybean, Hannibal Carbide, Cyanamid, and later retired from General Mills.
A true handyman, Larry found joy in the simple pleasures of yard work and house renovations. The cabin, fondly referred to as their "home place," was a testament to Larry's dedication and love for nature. It was in this special retreat that he found peace, surrounded by the beauty of the great outdoors. An avid sports fan, Larry's passion for the St. Louis Cardinal baseball, St. Louis Blues hockey, and Kansas City Chiefs football knew no bounds. He looked forward to watching and cheering on his favorite teams. Larry's enjoyed traveling, with Arizona's Prescott, Chino Valley holding a special place in his heart. The Old Threshers Reunion was an annual highlight for Larry, a place where he could indulge in his fascination of historical machinery. It was an event that not only fueled his interests but also connected him with like-minded individuals who shared his appreciation for tradition and heritage. When at home, Larry found excitement in the classic films of John Wayne. He admired the grit and grace of the westerns. Larry enjoyed being on Facebook, his scrolling was not aimless but a way to stay connected, to share laughs, and to keep up with the lives of friends and family. Most of all, Larry treasured his family and each moment they spent together. Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry was a member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 and of the Hannibal Elks Lodge.
Larry was Christian by faith and a member of Clover Road Christian Church in Hannibal, MO.
Pallbearers will be Cory David, Travis Tate, Andrew Rice, Trent Chaplin, Zach White, Gene Foster, and Tony Tate.
